Langkawi Hosts Malaysia Triathlon
The Malaysia Triathlon will be putting people's physical endurance to the test in Langkawi in February 27th.
LANGKAWI, MALAYSIA, January 23, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Guests of Langkawi hotels who are feeling particularly athletic may like to take part in the Malaysia Triathlon next month.
Taking place on February 27th, the event is certainly not for the faint-hearted, as it requires participants to complete a swim, bicycle ride and run in very hot temperatures.
The race begins with a two-loop swim of Kuah Bay, starting from the giant eagle statue in the Jetty Point port area.
Once this is completed, athletes will then get on their bikes and complete a circuit that takes them all around the island before heading back to Kuah Town.
Dismounting at Dataran Land, competitors must then complete three loops around the town - totalling 42.2 kilometres - on foot before a final dash back to the eagle statue, where the finish line is located.
According to the event's official website, Langkawi's warm climate means that the run is usually the toughest aspect of the triathlon.
"The terrain isn't that challenging - it's the heat that the athletes face as they go through the marathon that makes things difficult," the organisers explain.
In 2001, temperatures during the triathlon reached 43 degrees C.
Entry to the event is open until February 1st at a cost of $420 (GBP258). A prize pool of $50,000 is at stake, with $8,500 going to both the first-placed male and the winning female.
