Olympic 2010 Transportation Plan Restricts Traffic in Whistler, British Columbia
No public parking during Olympic winter games means thousands of ticket holders are looking for home rentals in Whistler.
VANCOUVER, BC, July 10, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Phase 1 of the Olympic 2010 Transportation plan has been released and the news isn't good for anyone considering driving from Vancouver to Whistler to watch events.
There will be no public parking available in Whistler. Drivers who cannot demonstrate they have arranged parking in Whistler will not be allowed on the highway.
Buses will be available at regular intervals from Vancouver, however travel time is approximately two hours each way not including wait time at departure depots.
A high volume of traffic is anticipated at peak hours. For example, before and after events.
To avoid the hassle, many are looking into a Whistler home rental close to public transit and within walking distance of the village. Ticket holders can drive up to Whistler before the traffic restrictions start and leave when they are over avoiding the congestion on the road. Skiers can even arrive early enough to take advantage of Whistler's quiet season prior to the excitement of the Games.
