Living Root Dragon Boat, a competitive Boston dragon boat club, invites new corporate and community partners to start dragon boat racing in 2008.

Why dragon boat racing? If you are looking for a physically and mentally challenging teambuilding activity, you want to start dragon boat racing. With 22 people on a dragon boat, each person has to move with a rower's synchronized precision using a canoe-like paddling technique.

Whether training for the Boston Dragon Boat Festival or for races in Pawtucket and Hartford, Living Root Dragon Boat provides the highest quality dragon boat coaching. We work with both first-time novices and experienced dragonboaters to safely improve their dragon boat technique. In the process, we help you develop greater self-confidence, teamwork, positive relationships and communication to make a more cohesive team.

Since 2006, we have had the opportunity to help train individuals and teams from Deloitte, NAAAP (National Association of Asian American Professionals), Pathways to China, and South Cove Community Health Center.

Living Root Dragon Boat is the only Boston dragon boat team with the infrastructure to offer year-round training on dragon boats, outrigger canoes or at an indoor pool. During our training sessions, we are able to accommodate individuals or teams as large as 22 people.

Video analysis of form, technique and timing are available upon special request.

We are currently training to compete at the Boston Dragon Boat Festival on June 7-8, 2008. We offer 2008 racing opportunities in Montreal, New York City, Pawtucket, Hartford and San Francisco.

For individuals looking to join Living Root Dragon Boat, no prior experience is necessary. Athleticism, good overall fitness, and/or prior triathlon, swimming, basketball, cycling, marathon, volleyball, rugby, field hockey, lacrosse, football, soccer, running, crew, rowing, sculling, paddling, canoeing, white water rafting, outrigger, kayaking, water polo, or yoga experience is a plus.

ABOUT DRAGON BOAT

Dragon boat racing is an ancient Chinese sport that has become a global phenomenon held in over 40 countries around the world. According to Paddler Magazine, dragon boat racing is the fastest growing water sport and the second most popular water sport in the world. In the U.S. alone, there are several hundred clubs and teams that compete annually in the sport of dragon boat. In North America, dragon boats are constructed of either wood or fiberglass and typically hold 20 people paddling in unison with a drummer and steerer at the front and back, respectively.
